Euthanasia

The problem of euthnasia raises a great deal of controversy. Some people are for euthanasia but most people thinks that it is inhumane.
The supporters of euthanasia say that it can cause more good than harm to the patient and the family. Everyone have the right to decide about his or her life and death. It is very hard to live in a permanent vegative state without any human dignity. For many people euthanasia is an act of mercy and should be allowed. It is also a great problem in the case of whose who cannot express their consent, for example senile, comatose patiens or profoundly retarded children. Some people think that these patiens who have no chances of recovery should be put to death.
But the opponents of euthanasia are of the opinion that everyone has natural right to continue living. According to them, making euthanasia legal would promote a lack of respect for human life. And in some cases a decision about discontinuing someone's life may be wrong because there are situations in whose the patients whoo seemingly have no chance of recovery miracously survive. ;)
Personally I'm against because I don't think any human has the right to purposefully end the life of another human being. And what do you thinh about this problem?

  1. Euthanasia is a very complex and delicate issue..On the one hand it allows people to die "with dignity" and stops their suffering but on the other hand, it's a kind of a murder, because as you said, people who haven't asked to die will be put to death. That's why, as far as I'm concerned, I can't clearly state if I'm for or against euthanasia..

  2. That's a pretty heavy question. I guess only when the issue concerns us personally (meaning either we or someone really close to us is involved), can we really know what we feel about this dilemma. It must be terribly difficult to devise a law about these things - every case, every life is different. But watching your loved one suffer for years without hope of recovery must be unbearable.
